Parishioners report removal of guard from mosque in Makhachkala

After over a year, power agents have lifting the guarding of the mosque in Kotrov Street, but it has not yet resumed its work, said the congregation.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on November 20, 2015, a conflict broke out around the Salafi mosque in Kotrov Street in Makhachkala after the Muftiate had decided to appoint Daud Tumalaev to the post of Imam there, without any consultations with the community. On November 30, 2015, the mosque was cordoned off by power agents.

The guarding of the "An-Nadiriya" mosque removed on December 9 this year, said Gasan Magomedov, a parishioner.

When the mosque was functioning, at least 4000 believers made up its congregation and gathered there for their Friday prayers, said an employee of the mosque.

The "Caucasian Knot" has also reported that since September 2015, a number of Salafi mosques in Dagestan were closed, or Imams were changed by force in them.
