Svetlana Gannushkina awarded "Alternative Nobel Prize"

The Award "For Right Livelihood", known as the Alternative Nobel Prize, has been given to the rights defender Svetlana Gannushkina in Stockholm "for many years of commitment to defence of human rights and fair treatment of refugees and internally displaced persons”. The awarding of the laureates of the award took place in Stockholm on November 25, said the release of the “Right Livelihood Award” Foundation.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the decision to award the 2006 Prize "The Right Livelihood Award” to Svetlana Gannushkina was announced in Stockholm in September. Apart from Svetlana Gannushkina, the laureates of the award are the NGOs from Syria and Egypt, and the editorial board of the Turkish "Cumhuriyet" newspaper.

Svetlana Gannushkina is the founder and head of the Committee "Civil Assistance". In 1993, she took part in the creation of the Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial". The Committee, headed by Svetlana Gannushkina, is defending the rights of refugees and internally displaced persons (IDPs).
