In Makhachkala, officials disaccord in finding of institution responsible for mass poisoning

In Makhachkala, employees of the housing and utilities services sector can be brought to responsibility for mass poisoning of city residents with water, and an inspection has been started to check the activities of the housing and utilities services sector. This was reported by the Prosecutor's Office. Officials from the Federal Association for Water Supply agree that the management companies are responsible for the incident.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that after the mass poisoning of Makhachkala residents on October 27, officials of the "Rospotrebnadzor" announced they would require the complete dissolution of the "Makhachkalavodokanal" as the main culprit of the incident. Magomed Murtazaliev, the director of the "Makhachkalavodokanal", is arrested.

Supply of poorly treated water to the population is a violation of the law committed by the "Makhachkalavodokanal", believes advocate Garoun Abdurakhmanov. He has also noted that if consumers believe that their rights are violated as a result of the actions of employees of the "Makhachkalavodokanal", they may go to the court for compensation for damage to them.

The incident of mass poisoning of Makhachkala residents was preceded by works at the Miatli Hydro Power Plant (HPP), after which city residents started to report about supply of dirty water. The works were conducted by the "RusHydro" company.

According to Elena Dovlatova, the executive director of the Russian Association of Water Supply and Sanitation, the mass poisoning in Makhachkala could occur not by fault of the "Makhachkalavodokanal", but because of careless operation of management companies, which failed to carry out the repair of intra-house networks in due time.
