HRC members demand from policemen to apologize to women involved in protest action in Beslan
The actions of the women involved in the action held on September 1 in Beslan did not constitute any elements of crime, and therefore, the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) for North Ossetia should apologize to the women for their detention. This was stated by members of the Human Rights Council under the President of Russia (HRC).
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the women came to the action dressed in T-shirts with the accusations against the President of Russia. Four of the women were sentenced by the court to 20 hours of public works, and each of two others was fined 20,000 roubles.
"I believe it necessary to immediately stop the prosecution of mothers of Beslan," said Andrei Babushkin, the chairman of the interregional public charitable organization "Committee for Civil Rights".
Igor Kalyapin, the head of the Committee for the Prevention of Torture, a member of the HRC, has added that it is not necessary to demand to bring to responsibility the policemen, who detained the women involved in the action.
Let us remind you that the NGO "Voice of Beslan", created by the survived victims of the terror act, including its leaders Ella Kesaeva and Svetlana Margieva, stands for conduction of an independent investigation into the events in Beslan.
