Student Gadjieva fined for reposting IS symbols

The Solntsevo District Court of Moscow has imposed a fine of 400,000 roubles on Patimat Gadjieva, a native of Dagestan and a student of the medical university, accused of reposting an image of the flag of the so-called "Islamic State” (IS), banned in Russia by the court judgement.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on February 24 this year the above court began considering the case of Patimat Gadjieva, charged under Articles 205.2 (public incitement to terrorism or public justification of terrorism) and 282 (incitement of hatred or enmity) of the Russian Criminal Code. On August 17, in response of the judge's question whether she recognized herself guilty, Patimat Gadjieva said that she disagreed with her indictment.

According to Gadjieva’s advocate, his client had no intention to incite hatred and terrorism, and by her post in the social network Gadjieva "wanted to discuss events in Syria with her friends."

Today, the Moscow District Military Court has fined Patimat Gadjieva, a 20-year-old student of the medical university, by 400,000 roubles for reposting an extremist publication; she was released in the courtroom, the RIA "Novosti" reports.

According to the RIA, during the debate in the courtroom, the prosecutor demanded to sentence the student to four years in a colony-settlement.

The defence was satisfied with the verdict and has no plans to appeal against it, said Timur Aliev, Gadjieva’s advocate, noting that according to his practice "they give two years under such cases", the RBC (RosBusinessConsulting) reports.
