"Chernovik" photo reporter claims being detained near Salafi mosque in Makhachkala

Ruslan Alibekov, a staff member of the Dagestani newspaper "Chernovik" (Draft), has claimed being detained when taking pictures after Friday prayers at the Salafi mosque. The edition office intends to appeal to the Prosecutor's Office with a complaint about the police's actions.

According to the photo reporter, he was engaged in taking pictures on the instructions of the edition office, when he was detained by the policemen, who disturbed him in his professional activities.

"I phoned the deputy chief of the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA), and after his intervention I was released," Ruslan Alibekov told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent. He has also added that the policemen did not commit any illegal actions against him and did not seize his photographic equipment.

Earlier, the "Caucasian Knot" has reported about the mass detentions of believers at the Salafi mosque located in Hungarian Fighters Street in Makhachkala. Thus, on May 14, at least 20 believers of the mosque were detained.
