Court leaves Amur Khakulov in custody

The Kirov Regional Court has left in custody Amur Khakulov, sentenced in the case of the attack on Nalchik. The Court has pronounced such a decision at the request filed by lawyer Olga Gnezdilova, who asked to release Amur Khakulov for health reasons.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in April, Amur Khakulov was brought under escort to the place for serving his sentence in the Kirov Region. Due to the severe state of his health, he was immediately placed to the "Therapeutic detention facility No. 12" in the city of Kirov-Chepetsk.

On March 15, the defendants sentenced in the case of the attack on Nalchik were escorted to Kazan. Relatives of Amur Khakulov fear for his life because of his serious illness. Amur Khakulov is sentenced to 19 years of imprisonment, and he is still to serve 8.5 years. The defence insisted that Amur Khakulov could not have committed the murder of a worker, of which he was charged.

The defence intends to file a complaint to the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) about the decision of the Kirov Regional Court.

According to Diana Kostina, a lawyer of the project "Legal Initiative", Amur Khakulov needs medical procedures that require sterile conditions, and there could be a problem in the penal colonies.

Earlier, doctors have announced that Amur Khakulov is in urgent need of dialysis; however, the court refused to release him for medical treatment. On February 12, the complaint about the Amur Khakulov's case was filed to the ECtHR.
