Exhibition of Nikolai Lakov's paintings to destroy stereotypes of Dagestan, organizers assert
The exhibition "Dagestan by Moscow artist Nikolai Lakov" is opened at the Museum of Moscow. The organizers hope that the exhibition will help to break down the Moscow residents' stereotypes concerning residents of Dagestan.
The exhibition, which will run until June 26, was organized by the Museum of Moscow, the Dagestani Ministry of Culture, the Dagestani Museum of Fine Arts, and the Dagestani State United Historical and Architectural Museum named after Takho-Godi.
The exhibition aims to acquaint Moscow resident and guests with Dagestan and the cultural diversity of the region. This was told to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent by Irina Smagina, a supervisor of the event. She has mentioned that there is a certain stereotype of alleged aggressiveness of Dagestani people.
According to Gamzatova, while selecting the artist's paintings for the exhibition in Moscow, the organizers primarily sought to show the diversity of his works.
The exhibition of Nikolai Lakov in Moscow is a significant event. This opinion was voiced by Fatima Kazieva, Secretary of the Human Rights Commission at the Permanent Representative Office of the Republic of Dagestan under the Russian President. "We hope that the exhibition will help in creation of a positive image of the Dagestani people," Fatima Kazieva has said.
