In Volgograd, veteran of World War II complains about her eviction from apartment

In Volgograd, the Mayoralty intends to evict Lydia Petrova, a veteran of the World War II, from a one-room apartment. Officials claim that Lydia Petrova occupies the apartments illegally. The woman treats the requirement of the Mayoralty as unfair.

Lydia Petrova told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that on February 20, 2014, she left her dilapidated housing and moved to an apartment in No. 20 in 40th VLKSM Anniversary Street in the Krasnoarmeisky District.

According to the pensioner, the house where she used to live earlier was recognized as a dilapidated in the 1990s; however, tenants of the house were not resettled. The woman began to file complaints and appeals to the city administration.

In 2013 and 2014, Lydia Petrova twice declared a hunger strike.

On February 20, 2014, she received the keys to a one-room apartment in No. 2 in the house No. 20 in 40th VLKSM Anniversary Street, which was municipal property.

"We believed that the justice had been done at last. However, that was not the case. Lydia Petrova lived in peace in the new apartment for less than a year. On January 31, 2015, she underwent a complicated surgery. And on the other day, when she was resting after anaesthesia, officials from the Mayoralty contacted her via phone and informed her that she allegedly occupied the apartment illegally and that she was to vacate it," said lawyer Nadezhda Konovalova, who represented the interests of Lydia Petrova in the court.

"We'll continue our fight for justice in the courts," said Nadezhda Konovalova.
