Six residents of Karachay-Cherkessia arrested on suspicion of terrorism

The court has pronounced the pre-trial restriction measure in the form of detention against persons suspected of creating a terrorist grouping and plotting terror acts on the territory of Karachay-Cherkessia.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on December 24, 2015, the counterterrorist operation (CTO) legal regime was introduced within a part of the territory of Karachay-Cherkessia. Law enforcers reported on neutralization of three suspected militants in an abandoned summer village. Five suspects were detained in Cherkessk, and another one was stopped by law enforcers while trying to hide in Kabardino-Balkaria, the National Antiterrorist Committee (NAC) reported.

At the request of the investigators, the pre-trial restriction measure was pronounced against six detained residents of Karachay-Cherkessia in the form of detention. They are suspected of creating a terrorist grouping, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was informed by Sergey Shuvaev, an official from the Investigating Department for Kabardino-Balkaria of the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF).

According to Sergey Shuvaev, the detainees were plotting a series of terror acts.

The suspects have confessed that they were plotting terror acts on the territory of Karachay-Cherkessia. This was reported by the message published on the website of the ICRF's Investigating Department for Kabardino-Balkaria on February 1.
