In Sochi, rally participants demand to solve their housing problems
In Sochi, people, who have come to the rally, have declared the inadmissibility of the situation, in which the city still has a queue of 25,000 people in need of housing, while the houses built for Olympic settlers stay empty for years.
The rally was organized by the Communist Party of the Russian Federation (CPRF). According to the organizers, the protest action was attended by about 300 people.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Sochi residents, who live in deplorable houses and barracks, have repeatedly raised the issue of resettlement to empty houses, built for the Olympic settlers. However, the authorities have ignored their demands.
According to Yuri Maryan, the leader of the anti-corruption coalition in Sochi, activists have sent to various authorities the appeals describing the facts of the destruction of public property and the use of it for other purposes by local authorities; however, the situation has not changed.
Nina Dubovaya, a pensioner and Category II Invalid, has claimed that her problem has not been solved till present. The woman has added that, despite the fact that the court returned the land plot to her, she cannot use it because of a high-rise building built near her house.
It should be noted that in Sochi, according to Alexander Zachitailov, Director of the Department of Architecture, Urban Planning and Development, 25,897 people are in the queue for social housing.
