Azerbaijani President signs Law "On Combating Religious Extremism"

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliev has signed the Law to ban the activities of organizations disseminating radical religious ideas. The Law also regulates how special operations should be carried out and how the public should be informed about them.

The draft law stipulates the prohibition and elimination of organizations disseminating radical religious ideas.

The government has one month to prepare and submit to the Azerbaijani President a draft law to define the responsibility for violation of the Law, the "APA" reports.

It should be noted that the Law has been signed after the events in the village of Nardaran, where clashes between believers and the police occurred on November 26. The unrest was triggered by a special operation, during which the police detained activists of the movement "Muslim Unity", including Shiite theologian Talekh Bagirzade. As a result of the clashes, seven people were killed, including two policemen.
