Novocherkassk declared zone of ecological emergency
The discussion titled "Ecology in Our City: Initiative, Partnership, and Responsibility" will take place in the building of the Novocherkassk city administration on June 25. It will be conducted within the framework of the We and Our City program implemented in Novocherkassk by the Don Women's Association jointly with the International Society Memorial. Representatives of the scientific community, authorities and nongovernmental organizations will discuss issues of putting into practice the Ecological Recovery of the Territory and Population in Novocherkassk, Rostov Region, in 2002-2010 program, monitoring environment in Novocherkassk, planting trees in the city, and covering ecological problems by the media.
For the last 10-15 years, ecological services and a group of scientists and specialists of Novocherkassk institutes of higher education have done serious researches on the city's ecology. On the basis of these researches and expert materials, the State Ecological Commission of Experts made a decision in 2000 that Novocherkassk was a zone of the ecological emergency. However, ecological questions in Novocherkassk are in the background today because of different reasons.
