DPR recognizes independence of Abkhazia and South Ossetia

Alexander Zakharchenko, the head of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) has signed decrees recognizing the independence of Abkhazia and South Ossetia.

According to the DPR's Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), Zakharchenko signed both documents in the evening on May 11.

Anatoly Bibilov, the Speaker of the Parliament of South Ossetia, who is on an official visit to Donetsk on the anniversary of proclamation of independence of the DPR, said in his comment to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that the recognition of independence of South Ossetia was a logical step in the development of interrelations of the two republics.

"Not so much time has expired after the South Ossetia's recognition of the independence of the DPR and the LPR (Lugansk People's Republic). The recognition of South Ossetia's independence by the DPR will deepen the diplomatic relations of the two states," he said.

Besides, as noted by Bibilov, South Ossetia and DPR plan to sign "an interstate treaty and interdepartmental agreements," the TASS has reported today.

"Once signed, the treaty will assume mutual help, including the military one," said the Speaker of the Parliament of South Ossetia.
