1 local resident killed, 2 abducted in Chechnya

One man was killed and another two abducted in the village of Kalaus, Chechnya's Grozny district, on the night of May 31. The incident reportedly occurred at about 3 a.m. local time. Criminals moved in three UAZ cars without number plates. They wore military uniforms. "Unknown people in masks armed with automatic weapons captured local residents Zhalil Mutsuyev and Aslan Rasuyev and took them away in an unknown direction. Zhalil Mutsuyev's brother, Rezvan, made an attempt to resist the attackers and was killed," said a duty officer at the Chechen interior ministry. A criminal case has been opened in connection with the incident.

Meanwhile, people in Kalaus are convinced that this crime was committed by officers of Russian security agencies. "Who can easily move so late and even more so in three cars in the republic where a curfew is introduced? Who can do it except for servicemen and officers of security agencies," said 42-year-old Magomed, a relative of one of the abducted men. "I don't believe the criminals will be found and punished. There have been dozens and hundreds of such cases here. But I haven't heard that the criminals were found and trialed."
