NGOs to keep Georgian police departments under supervision
The project to create the Georgian Interior Ministry's Public Council has been worked out by the ministry, Georgian Deputy Interior Minister Irakly Kldiashvili told a press conference.
According to the project, the council will consist of representatives of non-governmental organizations (NGOs), who will exercise supervision over regional police departments, the deputy minister said. The main direction of the council's activity will be human rights protection.
On May 28, Tbilisi Mayor Zurab Chiaberashvili also announced his intention to create a council from NGO activists to advise the Tbilisi mayor.
