Adam Osmaev assumes command of battalion fighting for official Kiev

A native of Grozny Adam Osmaev, who had been once accused of plotting a terror act against the Russian President Vladimir Putin, has headed the "International Peacemaking Battalion named after Dudaev", created by Isa Munaev, a former Chechen field commander, and taking part in the war in Eastern Ukraine as a part of the antiterrorist operation (ATO).

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on February 1 Isa Munaev was killed in the battle in Donbas.

"Currently, the command of the battalion named after Dudaev is on the Major of Armed Forces of the Chechen Republic of Ichkeria Adam Osmaev," Amina Okueva, the press officer of the battalion and Osmaev's civil wife, said on February 2. A video record of her statement was posted on the YouTube by the user "Crisis Media Centre".

Let us remind you that Adam Osmaev had been put by Russian authorities on the international wanted list on suspicion of preparing terror acts and was detained in Odessa on February 4, 2012. According to Russian law enforcers, Adam Osmaev was plotting to kill Vladimir Putin; however, Osmaev himself refused to plead guilty and claimed being tortured.

In October 2014, the Ukrainian Prosecutor's Office excluded the terrorism article from his indictment. On November 18, 2014, the Primorsky District Court of Odessa found Osmaev guilty of illegal handling of explosives, reckless destruction of another's property and forging documents, sentenced him to 2 years 9 months and 14 days in jail and released him in the courtroom, because he had already served this term in the SIZO.

Full text of the article is available on the Russian page of 24/7 Internet agency ‘Caucasian Knot’.
