Author of clip urging to refrain from welcoming New Year detained in Makhachkala

Murad Nurmagomedov, the author of the video clip, popular on the Internet, in which well-known Muslims criticize the New Year celebration in Dagestan, was detained by policemen in Makhachkala. Power agents assert that during a personal inspection of Nurmagomedov and a search of his home they found ammunition; however, his wife is sure that the ammunition had been planted.

Murad Nurmagomedov, born in 1986, was detained on December 31, 2014, his wife NailyaNurmagomedova told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent. According to her story, her husband never had any problems with the police; he was not registered there. She has already turned for help to the Dagestani Regional Public Association (DRPA) "Pravozaschita” (Advocacy) and found an advocate for her husband.

On December 31, 2011, the hosting YouTube posted a video clip, produced by Nurmagomedov and entitled "Dagestanis’ Attitude to New Year". Since then, the clip was watched for over 150,000 times. It shows well-known people from Dagestani media, athletes, public and religious leaders, who urge not to celebrate the New Year.

Nurmagomedov was detained, when he was travelling in a fixed-route taxi, said one of his friends. He did not rule out that the detention could have to do with the above video clip.
