Court passes life imprisonment to five figurants in attack on Nalchik case
All defendants in the case of the attack on Nalchik in October 2005 have been found guilty. Five of them received life sentences, and three were released in the courtroom, because their appointed punishment has expired, while they were in custody.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that as a result of the attack on Nalchik, which occurred on October 13, 2005, 35 law enforcers and soldiers, 14 civilians and 92 attackers were killed. 129 law enforcers and 66 civilians were wounded. 57 suspected attackers were detained. Most of them stated their innocence.
Today, the Supreme Court of Kabardino-Balkaria, which had been considering the case since 2008, read out the substantive provisions of the sentence.
Anzor Ashev, Zalim Ulimbashev and Kazbek Budtuev were set free, because they have already served their terms.
Five defendants – Anzor Mashukov, Eduard Mironov, Aslan Kuchmenov, Murat Bapinaev and Rasul Kudaev – were sentenced to life imprisonment.
The remaining defendants were sentenced to the terms ranging from 10 to 23 years in a high security colony.
The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports from the courtroom that defendants' advocates intend to appeal against the verdict.
