In Azerbaijan, Intigam Aliev, the head of the NGO "Legal Education Society", was presented a new charge – under the article of a large-scale embezzlement, under which he is under a threat of up to 12 years in prison. His advocate Djavad Djavadov states that his client rejects the new charge, like all the previous ones.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the rights defender Intigam Aliev was detained on August 8 and accused of tax evasion, abuse of office and illegal entrepreneurship. On October 24, his arrest was extended until February 8, 2015.

The advocate has noted that criminal cases against civil society activists are conducted under a standard scenario.

With regard to Aliev's health, the advocate stated "no significant changes": the rights defender still has insomnia and severe headaches.

Let us remind you that on November 30 Aliev marked his 52nd birthday in custody. On this occasion, many politicians and civil society activists of Azerbaijan congratulated him through the media.
