Large-scale purge conducted in Chechen village
On May 11, Russian servicemen, supported by armored vehicles, blocked off the village of Ulus-Kert, which is on the border between the Shali and Shatoy districts of Chechnya. "Yesterday, no one was allowed to enter and to leave Ulus-Kert. Searches were conducted in the houses of local residents. They say the military beat young men, robbed, and marauded. This morning, when I was leaving our village, Ulus-Kert was still blocked off," a resident of the village of Chiri-Yurt, situated several kilometers away form Ulus-Kert, said to the Caucasian Knot correspondent on May 12. The republican commandant's office has refused to comment on the occasion.
