Presidential election in Chechnya to be held on September 5
An election of the new president of the Chechen Republic will be held on 5 September 2004, the Caucasian Knot correspondent was told at the Chechen election commission. This date has already been approved by the Russian President's Plenipotentiary in the South Federal District Aleksandr Yakovlev, the commission's official said. "The pre-term election of the head of the republic will be held in total compliance with the federal and republican laws. No alleged alterations and supplements to the Constitution of Chechnya and the Law on Elections of the President of the Republic will be made," he added.
