Aslambek Aslakhanov 'never had presidential ambition'
The Russian president's adviser Aslambek Aslakhanov does not intend to be a candidate for the Chechen presidency. "I've never had presidential ambition. I didn't have it in 1991, when they considered me the main favorite; I didn't have it last year, when I stood for the post of head of the republic; and I don't have in now," Mr Aslakhanov said at a press conference on Wednesday, May 12. At the same time, he did not rule out a possibility that he could nominate himself as a candidate for the main post in Chechnya "if people support me". However Aslambek Aslakhanov is convinced "there will be much more candidates for the post of head of the republic than there were during the previous presidential campaign."
