Armenian society is poorly informed of human rights protections, ombudsperson says
Armenia was the first in the region to adopt Christianity as a state religion and the last to introduce the institution of ombudsman, ombudsperson Larisa Alaverdian said during a discussion arranged by the Center for Public Dialogue.
Larisa Alaverdian mentioned the lack of pubic awareness of legal regulations, rights and mechanisms of their protection as the main obstacle to the ombudsperson's activity. "The institution of ombudsman in Armenia will be of service if society senses a new structure for the protection of human rights - people have been deprived of it heretofore - has been created," Larisa Alaverdian said.
