Starting from August 18, Makhachkala Airport will restrict passenger flights

Since August 18, the Makhachkala Airport will operate and maintain aircrafts only from 7:30 a.m. till 7:20 p.m., and the rest of the day will be dedicated to repair works. Later, on September 29, the airport will be closed for a month, said Tamerlan Buganov, the General Director of the Open Joint-Stock Company (OJSC) "Makhachkala International Airport".

On June 9, the Makhachkala Airport was auctioned off and purchased for 300 million roubles by the Group "Nafta" controlled by Suleiman Kerimov. In July, the Russian Federal Air Transport Agency has issued a comprehensive certificate of compliance to the above OJSC.

At present, the Makhachkala Airport is conducting negotiations with the airlines on the temporary redirection of passenger flights from Dagestan to the airports of Grozny and Mineralnye Vody, said Magomedgadji Radjabov, the Deputy Minister of Industry, Transport and Energy of Dagestan.

The restriction on arrivals and departures of aircrafts will also affect flights to Moscow, Saint Petersburg, and Mineralnye Vody.

Residents of Dagestan express their dissatisfaction with the fact that they had not been warned in advance about the changes in the flight schedule. The "Caucasian Knot" has questioned air travellers, who bought tickets in advance, and many of them are still not aware of cancellation of flights or changes in the flight schedule.
