Moscow hopes Chechen issue in UN Commission on Human Rights closed once and for all

At the latest session of the UN Commission on Human Rights, the European Union submitted a draft resolution on the situation in Chechnya. This draft was turned down by the majority of votes.

"We hope that the Chechen issue in the UN Commission on Human Rights has been closed once and for all", Russian deputy foreign minister Yuri Fedotov said to a press-conference in RIA Novosti. "There are unfortunately some negative moments in the commission's work. It is too politicized and is of a confrontational character," he said.

In particular, there are examples of politically motivated initiatives which have nothing to do with the tasks of upholding human rights, noted Mr Fedotov.
