First 2004 meeting of expert council attached to Stavropol Region's ombudsman
The expert council attached to the Commissioner for Human Rights in Stavropol Region assembled for the first time in 2004 on March 31. Council members considered the issue of the observance of rights and freedoms of servicemen deployed on the territory of the region. Consultant to the office of the commissioner for human rights in Stavropol Region, former military prosecutor of the Stavropol Garrison Mr Chernenko was a main speaker.
Among violations in Stavropol Region, he mentioned the levy of sick young men, sometimes even men with mental disorders and drug takers; the use of servicemen as manpower at private building sites; and the non-granting of extra nutrition to soldiers with low weight.
Chair of the committee of soldier's mothers of Stavropol Region Ms Mundirenko, chief medical officer of the Stavropol mental hospilal Mr Bylim, archpriest of the Mikhailovsky temple father Igor, and former military commissioner of Stavropol Region Mr Maryin, representatives of Stavropol media and non-government organizations took part in the meeting.
