Medical College students protest against classmate's abduction in Grozny
On March 12, students of the Medical College of Grozny staged a rally in protest against the abduction of their classmate.
About 100 young people marched through the center of the Chechen capital, holding banners and chanting "Set the student free!"
The students demanded the release of the Medical College dental student who, according to them, had been taken just from the school by unknown armed men on March 11.
When the march ended, the students met with the Chechen leader Akhmad Kadyrov, who assured them he would "personally look into this."
Acts of protest by students appear to be gaining momentum in Chechnya. In late February, students of the Department of Medicine of the Chechen State University picketed the building of the Chechen government for three days, also demanding the release of their classmate.
