Two cars with 300 kg of explosives found in Chechnya
Federal Security Service officers uncovered two cars stuffed with 300 kg of explosives in the Urus-Martan district, Chechnya, on March 4. "A Volga GAZ-24 and a Zhiguli VAZ-2106 containing about 300 kg of explosives in their boots were found yesterday in the Alkhan-Yurt vicinity. One can say for sure presently these vehicles were meant for large-scale terrorist acts," the officer on duty of Chechnya's Internal Affairs Ministry told us. Examination of the cars showed they had been designed for use by suicide bombers, according to the officer. Some wires for electric detonators leading into the passenger compartment provide evidence of this. "To our mind, Shamil Basaev stood behind the preparation of these terrorist acts," says the Internal Affairs officer. "Alkhan-Yurt is among settlements in the republic where higher activity of Wahhabi gangs is registered." Combat engineers destroyed the cars with "hell's machines" on the spot.
