Azerbaijan opposition calls upon Ilkham Aliyev to release political prisoners
The Committee to Struggle Against Repressions and Election Fraud in Azerbaijan appealed to Azerbaijan President Ilkham Aliyev to release persons arrested in connection with the developments of October 15 and 16, 2003. The appeal was adopted during a round table discussion arranged by the committee on March 3.
The authors of the appeal believe the act of amnesty will form a basis for the restoration of civil balance in Azerbaijan.
The head of the committee, Ramiz Rovshan, specially emphasized that trials against persons arrested after the presidential election discredited Azerbaijan in the opinion of the international public. "The way to the liberation of territories occupied by Armenia lies through freedom of Azerbaijan citizens," he added.
