Actions of Soviet troops in Baku in 1990 violated human rights
The use of arms against Baku citizens by the authorities of the former USSR in January 1990 violated principles of human rights and freedoms, reads a statement of the Human Rights Institute of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences issued on January 19, on the eve of the 14th anniversary of the so called Baku Events.
The statement reads that "by the military incursion into Baku, the Soviet leadership violated the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights as well as others international documents, including the Convention on the Rights of the Child."
