Lonely residents find shelter in Grozny old people's home
The Grozny old people's home was opened in 2003. At first it had a few inmates but now has 72. The home is currently under repairs and will shortly welcome new inmates. Old residents are for now living 3 in a room, but after the repairs there will be 2 people in a room.
Inmates are fed 3 times a day, with the Chechen Labor Ministry and the International Committee of the Red Cross supplying the full complement of foodstuffs. There is a doctor in the home. Humanitarian organizations help with medicines. And staff members do their best, regularly washing and ironing inmates' clothes and changing the bed linen. Staffers in the home strive hard for relieving the old men's life. Chechen officials are frequent visitors to the home. The Chechen Minister of Labor and Social Protection visited the home on New Year's Eve.
The social policy section of the Grozny city administration has a list of another 10 people wishing to go and live in the old people's home. The head of the section, Nina Lorsayeva, says more than a hundred people will find accommodation in the Grozny old people's home after the repairs.
