Armenian President announces ombudsman's nomination to National Assembly
Armenian President Robert Kocharian announced the ombudsman's candidacy to the National Assembly. According to a report by the press service of the Armenian parliament, chairwoman of the Foundation Against Illegality NGO Larisa Alaverdian has been nominated to the post. Parliamentary factions and groups are to consider the candidacy nominated and speak on the subject till February 10. To note, the ombudsman is an independent official, who, proceeding from the Armenian Constitution and norms of jus cogens, will defend human rights and freedom oppressed by state services as well as bodies of local self-government and their representatives.
