Lawyer of Evgenia Khasis convicted for Markelov's murder files complaint to ECtHR

The defence of Evgenia Khasis convicted on charges of participation in the murder of the lawyer Stanislav Markelov filed a complaint against the verdict to the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR). This was reported by the lawyer Dmitry Agranovskiy.

On May 5, 2011, the Moscow City Court pronounced a guilty verdict against Tikhonov and Khasis, whom the jury found guilty of the murder of the lawyer Stanislav Markelov and the journalist Baburova and deserving no leniency on any charge item. The court sentenced Tikhonov and Khasis to life imprisonment and to 18 years of imprisonment, respectively. On September 14, 2011, the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation upheld the verdict to the defendants.

"I have appealed against the guilty verdict of the Moscow City Court to the ECtHR, mentioning the numerous procedural violations that occurred during the trial and during the pre-trial investigation as main grounds for cancellation of the verdict," the lawyer of the Evgenia Khasis told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent. Dmitry Agranovskiy has clarified that the complaint was sent to the ECtHR this morning.
