Kochiev: there was no putsch attempt in South Ossetia
There was no open confrontation with supporters of extension of Mr Kokoity's presidency, who broke today into the Parliament of South Ossetia; however, the MPs were under pressure. This was stated by the Speaker Stanislav Kochiev. In protest, some of the parliamentarians submitted their self-resignation applications.
Today, armed supporters of South-Ossetian President Eduard Kokoity broke into the building of the Parliament, where a heated debate burst out between them and the MPs about the law enforcement practice and future development of the country.
"Nonetheless, there was no attempted coup undertaken by the initiative group in the Parliament," said Kochiev.
Let us remind you that on May 4 the initiative group put forward the idea of a referendum for the extension of the term in office of the incumbent President of South Ossetia Eduard Kokoity, whose second term ends in 2011. On June 14, the Supreme Court of South Ossetia dismissed this initiative.
