Astrakhan Region opens new route of historical tourism
In the Astrakhan Region tourists will be able to visit a large-scale reconstruction of the medieval town of Sarai-Batu - the capital of Golden Horde, built in the steppes of the Kharabalin District, near the site of the actual archaeological excavations of the ancient settlement.
The town and fortress were built near the village of Selitrennoe in 2010 as the scenery for the feature film "Sanctifier Alexis", where the action took place in the fourteenth century. For the construction of the scenery they chose the area, which Astrakhan archaeologists believe to once be the real historical centre of Golden Horde.
According to the ministry, the new tourist centre "Sarai-Batu - Capital of Golden Horde" will be opened for tourists later this month, the RIA "Novosti" reports.
The cost of the project is 150 million roubles, says the source named "Astrakhan Region - Russia's Southern Outpost".
