Isaeva: murders of human rights activists in Chechnya and "execution list" in Dagestan stem from different roots

The so-called "execution list", recently disseminated in Dagestan, hardly has anything to do with the recent murders of human rights defenders. This is the opinion of Nadira Isaeva, editor-in-chief of the Dagestan-based newspaper "Chernovik", who is also on the list.

"This list was spread among editorial offices; one of our colleagues brought it to us saying that is was disseminated in a city mosque. According to eyewitnesses, there was a silvery car; and these leaflets were thrown out of the car," Ms Isaeva said to the "Caucasian Knot".

"It's hard to say yet, whether it's a threat, intimidation or a part of some implemented plot. It can be anything of these. But hardly this 'execution list' has anything to do with the recent murders of human rights activists in Chechnya," she said.

"As to Estemirova's murder, I think, the source of threat is different. Chechnya is Chechnya, and human rights activists there are the people who prevent to show the 'beautiful Chechnya'. Here, the situation is different, and motives are different," Nadira Isaeva has explained her idea about the leaflets with threats disseminated in Dagestan.

She believes that the so-called "execution list" is a link in the chain of events related to kidnappings and "is quite well within a certain tactics", where the aim is to provoke a "blind massacre."

"In fact, it's not clear, with whom to fight, who the enemy is and who is addressing - the authors don't reveal themselves; and I don't believe that they represent certain militiamen or relatives of perished militiamen. This is just another provocation out of the range of provocations related with kidnapping," Nadira Isaeva said to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

"Thinking why I'm on the list means to follow the way, where the authors of the leaflet try to direct us. I don't want to think about it; it's better to think about their aim pursued by making and disseminating this list," she has added.
