Defendant in Nalchik attack case asks to send him to treatment

The today's court session on the case of attack on Nalchik in October 2005 has started with the petition submitted by defendant Sarabi Seyunov on his hospitalization to the Republic's Clinical Hospital, as he suffers from blood spitting. He has also stated that he feels bad and cannot take part in the trial.

A break was made in the trial, and a doctor from the medical unit of the SIZO (pre-trial prison) was called, and then - an ambulance. After the break, Galina Gorislavskaya, the chairing judge, announced two conclusions, issued by the doctors. In the opinion of SIZO doctors, "Seyunov's general condition is satisfactory; and he can take part in court sessions."

However, their ambulance colleagues found bubbling rale in Seyunov's lungs and tachycardia, and also diagnosed pneumonia with a question mark.

Advocate Abubakarov asked the court to pay attention to the different diagnoses put to Seyunov by civil doctors and doctors from the first aid ambulance and stated that defendants fail to receive proper medical aid at the SIZO. "I raise the issue of incompetence of the employees of the SIZO medical unit, or on their unwillingness to render due medical aid the defendants," Mr Abubakarov has stated.

Sarabi Seyunov's petition was supported by his advocate Rasul Eldzhorukaev, other advocates, and defendants. Many of them have also complained on non-provision of medical aid, or that the aid is just formal.

Defendant Azamat Ahkubekov has stated that with his diagnosis of tuberculosis on September 1 he was put into a dungeon - a wet location, for the term of 13 days. "I said that I'd complain to the prosecutor, but they told me: 'Your dungeon is already coordinated with the prosecutor'."

Defendant Eduard Mironov has informed the court that not so long ago inmates suffering from tuberculosis were put into his and Seyunov's cells.

The court has decided to use the forthcoming break, on September 5-21, for sending Seyunov for examination to the UFSIN (Federal Correction Administration) hospital; and then, according to the diagnosis, decide on his further treatment.
