Aleksandr Zimbovsky was released from ward of Rostov-on-Don for persons arrested for administrative infringements

On August 18 Aleksandr Zimbovsky was released from the special ward of Rostov-on-Don for persons arrested for administrative infringements. After 3 days of a waterless hunger-strike, on which Zimbovsky had went voicing a protest against the humiliation of human dignity in the ward, he was taken to the hospital on the ambulance and then released.

Zimbovsky was convicted together with Marina Popova of the organization of a federal route blockade in a protest against the methanol terminal construction in the center of the city, on Petrovsky Bulvar.

Brief information on the heart of the problem. People of Azov and ecologists are discontented with the construction of the terminal for methanol trans-shipment for the following reasons:

1. Methanol is a very hazardous substance. In Russia a sanitary and protection zone for such works must be not less than 1 kilometer. Here the terminal situated at less that 400 meters from dwelling houses.

2. By the estimates of experts from the Ecological Fund "Protection of the Priazovye Environment", a wreck of only one tanker with methanol (the methanol will be delivered to the terminal by railway and taken away by sea) will be enough to completely eliminate life in the Sea of Azov. Taking into consideration the fact that it is extremely difficult to navigate vessels of a tanker type in the Sea of Azov because of natural reasons, such a risk is hardly justified.
