Saakashvili: opposition has caused more damage to Georgia than war against Russia

On July 3, President of Georgia Mikhail Saakashvili stated that the actions of the opposition, which is holding from April 9 its actions in Tbilisi demanding resignation of the country's leader, have caused more financial damage to the nation than Russian bombardments in August 2008.

"Their statements have delivered a blow not on the government but on the most vulnerable part of the society," said Mr Saakashvili at the government's visiting session in Batumi.

President of Georgia has emphasized that because of statements of the opposition, which predicted chaos and destabilization, the country lost money that could have gone for paying salaries, pensions, credits, education and health insurance of the population.

Mikhail Saakashvili has added that the actions of the opposition resulted in loss of 20,000 workplaces; he expressed his confidence that "the society is now duly inoculated against such actions in the future."

The "Interfax" reports that the President has called Georgians to make a choice: to build five-stars hotels, like in Batumi, or tent camps of the opposition, like in Tbilisi.
