European Court of Human Rights finds Azerbaijan guilty on 16 cases
Most of the 16 decisions passed by the European Court against Azerbaijan are connected with violation of the right of citizens to association, stated Chinghiz Askerov, plenipotentiary representative of Azerbaijan at the European Court, on May 22.
Final decisions have been passed on 40 out of 127 complaints from Azerbaijan filed at the European Court.
"In 16 cases out of these 40, violations of human rights have been found, in the remaining 24 cases, the complaints have failed to be confirmed due to lack of violations", said Askerov at the conference on "Incorporation of the Case-law of the European Court on Human Rights in the Azeri Judicial Practice".
According to the Azeri representative in the European Court, most complaints today are connected with the problems arising during NGO registration. They are caused by faults in the legislation in force before 2004.
Other decisions are connected with the violations of the Convention articles 3 (prohibition of mistreatment during arrest and of torture) and 6 (right to fair trial), reports Trend.
Most complaints filed recently at the European Court are connected with the non-enforcement of court rulings, says Askerov.
