Court in Chechnya suspends some of the claims against "Vostok" battalion

The Grozny Garrison Military Court has stopped proceedings under 12 out of 31 civil suits lodged by former servicemen of the "Vostok" (East) battalion of the Russian Ministry of Defence deployed in Chechnya against their early dismissal from the military service.

"Some of the cases were stopped because servicemen filed applications in which they gave up their claims. At the trial it was found out that some of them had been dismissed at their own will on the basis of applications submitted by them," the "NewTimes.ru" reports.

The court has studied the servicemen's applications and concluded that there were no violations at their dismissal, and "they were provided with all the required allowances at dismissal."

According to the court spokesman, the consideration of the remaining 19 claims filed by former servicemen of the "Vostok" battalion was postponed till November 5-10 because of "insufficient materials presented by the respondent." The RIA "Novosti" adds that "the command has once again failed to present evidences, since in the settlement of Borzoy, where the command is located, the earthquake had first dammed up the road and then fell it down into the gorge."
