Russian MFA: RF's actions against Georgia were no aggression

The comment of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of Russia on the statement of US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, who has accused Russian Federation (RF) of aggression against Georgia, runs that Russia did not pursue any geostrategic aims, when it was forced to react to Georgia's actions.

"In any case, for Russia's part it was a one-time action, caused by emergent circumstances. It gives no grounds for any domino-type reasoning," the Ministry has noted.

The statement also underlines that "Russia threatens nobody, has no claims to any territories and is strictly guided by principles of international law."

The Russian MFA hopes for joint work with the USA "under all formats," runs the MFA's comment, as published by ITAR-TASS on September 21.

Meanwhile, ex-President of the USSR Mikhail Gorbachev, making his comments on that very day on Condoleezza Rice's statement in his interview to the "Vesti" Russian information channel, supposed that her tough speech addressed to Moscow is "a concluding attempt to do at least something to look resolute fighters for America's global interests in the eyes of those in power."

In Mr Gorbachev's opinion, the unconditional support by Washington of Tbilisi has led "to a failure of the policy pursued by them (US administration) in the Caucasus and in relation to Georgia," when they had armed and funded this country.

We remind you that Condoleezza Rice scarified Russia for the latter's position in the Georgian conflict, having stated that RF's authorities would not manage to overthrow Georgian government.
