Azerbaijan wants to build a monument to murdered Elmar Guseinov

The Azerbaijani Institute for Reporters' Freedom and Safety is starting a campaign of gathering signatures for monumentalizing the memory of Elmar Guseinov, editor of the "Monitor" magazine who was assassinated in March 2005.

Emin Guseinov, head of the Institute, has informed the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that the aim of the action is to erect a monument to the journalist. For this purpose, signatures are now gathered under the appeal to the Baku Mayoralty. The campaign will last for 2 months. Should the Mayoralty grant consent on allocation of the place, the fundraising on erection of the monument will be organized.

We remind you here that on March 2, 2005, Elmar Guseinov was killed by four shots in the porch of his house in Baku, where he lived with his family. His wife and a small son remained from the family.

Despite all the promises of the authorities to find and punish Guseinov's killers, the crime remains undisclosed until now.
