Georgia demands decent treatment of deportees

Tengiz Togonidze, 58, one of Georgian citizens deported from St. Petersburg, died of an asthma attack in the morning of October 17 straight in the Domodedovo Airport. Togonidze was one of 37 Georgian citizens deported from St. Petersburg. They all were brought to Moscow from St. Petersburg in a bus, and before that, they were kept in a distribution unit for five days, the "Novosti-Georgia" reports.

In connection with the incident at the Domodedovo Moscow Airport, the Embassy of Georgia in the Russian Federation has demanded decent treatment of the deportees from Russia, the "Pravda.Ru" reports. They told at the Embassy that the death evidences unsatisfactory custody conditions of detained Georgians.

During 9 days, Moscow courts made judgements on administrative deportation of 682 citizens of Georgia. According to Anna Usachova, press secretary of the Moscow City Court, the courts in 99% of cases hold to expel the infringers of the migration legislation.

We note here that Georgia is accusing the RF authorities of ethnic cleansings and even of genocide of Georgians. The Russian party is stoutly denying these charges; however, the human rights activists also mark an abrupt outburst of xenophobia towards the natives of Georgia.
