Russian military doctors examine population of Abkhazia

A group of doctors and specialists from the North Caucasus military district hospital, comprising 13 persons, conducts examination of the population in Ochamchirski, Tkuarchalski and Galski districts of Abkhazia.

During the week, the Russian medical specialists have examined 720 residents of Ochamchirski district, performed 32 surgical operations, more than 100 persons have had ECG diagnostics, a large number of various diseases have been diagnosed. During surgical operations, fragments of mines and shells have been removed from 11 patients wounded in the course of combat actions in 1992-1993.

Medical drugs have been provided free of charge for treatment and rehabilitation to all those who need them. Additionally, the neuropathologist and the psychiatrist have rendered wide assistance to persons who suffered from psychological and moral shocks during combat actions and after the war. The group of Russian military doctors examines up to 300 persons per day.

The Russian doctors are going to stay in the republic until the end of August. During this time, they plan to perform diagnostics of and render humanitarian medical aid to about 6-7 thousand residents of Abkhazia.
