Chechnya investigates murders of girls and armed clashes in Vedeno District

The Prosecutor's Office of Chechnya has initiated three criminal cases in connection with the attack on the Ombudsman's representative and two armed collisions in the Vedeno District (south of Chechnya).

The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told at the law-enforcement bodies of the Republic that the investigation of the circumstances of the attack on the car of the Ombudsman's representative, in which two small girls were killed, and two clashes with militants that happened yesterday in the Vedeno District is going on. The power agents do not exclude that one and the same group of militants took part in all three incidents.

Earlier, Nurdi Nukhazhiev, Ombudsman in the Chechen Republic, expressed his opinion in his interview to the RIA "Novosti" that the attack on Zubairaev could be accomplished by the militaries of the special-purpose battalion "Vostok" (East) under command of Sulim Yamadaev belonging to the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Russian General Staff (GRU).

"We cannot assert that 'Vostok' militaries are involved, but we have quite justified suspicions, and we think it a must for the investigation to study this version among others," Mr Nukhazhiev has stated.
