Kurban Dalgatov's parents hold picket in Makhachkala
The parents of Kurban Dalgatov, who died after being detained at the Makhachkala police station, have held a picket in the central square of Makhachkala. They believe that the sentence handed down to one of the law enforcers involved is too lenient.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Dalgatov's parents had sent a notification about a rally to be held on January 31, but the Makhachkala Mayoralty refused to sanction it, citing a potential threat of a terror act and drone attacks.
In December 2024, the court sentenced Islam Atavov, a Makhachkala policeman, to 7.5 years in colony for his involvement in Dalgatov's death; and in November of the same year, the court granted a request, lodged by Marat Babaev, another case figurant, to send him to the special military operation (SMO) zone in Ukraine.
Dalgatov's parents disagree with the lenient sentence that the Makhachkala court handed sown to Atavov.
Relatives have stated that Dalgatov died from suffocation, which occurred after "electric shocks to his heart area."
