Request to investigate Suleimanova's case in Saint Petersburg transferred to Chechnya

The Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF) has forwarded Elena Patyaeva's request to take the case of Seda Suleimanova or to investigate it in Saint Petersburg, where Seda was detained under the federal control, to the its Chechen Branch.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that this August, Patyaeva demanded from the ICRF to initiate a criminal case about law enforcers' actions during Seda Suleimanova's abduction. Law enforcers allowed her to be sent to Chechnya despite Seda's words that she was under threat of repressions there. In September, the ICRF informed Patyaeva that her demand had been forwarded to Chechnya. Lena's second request to take the case under federal control remains unanswered by the ICRF, Patyaeva reported on September 27.

Seda Suleimanova, a native of Chechnya, was detained in Saint Petersburg and taken to Chechnya in August 2023. There have been no reports from her since then. Her friends and human rights defenders fear that she has become the victim of a so-called "honour killing".

Let us remind you that on April 26, 2024, in Chechnya, an investigator interrogated Patyaeva, who held solo pickets in Saint Petersburg in February and March demanding to clarify Suleimanova's fate. Later this June, Patyaeva said that three months after the case was opened, the inquiry failed to come to any conclusions, and that the investigation was being sabotaged.
