Singer who apologized to Kadyrov declared political prisoner
The fifth criminal case has been opened against the singer Sharlot, who in January apologized to Ramzan Kadyrov. The project "Support for Political Prisoners. Memorial" has announced him as a political prisoner.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in January, Sharlot, accused of rehabilitating Nazism and insulting believers' feelings, apologized in court to the head of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov, for "insulting" him, and to President Vladimir Putin, whose portrait he had torn up.
Eduard Sharlot, a native of Samara, is a Russian singer and blogger, against whom several criminal cases have been initiated: two cases under the article on Nazism rehabilitation, and one – for insulting believers' feelings. Besides, the musician was accused of burning his Russian passport. The reason for the criminal prosecution was in Sharlot's provocative videos posted in social networks. In the summer of 2023, Sharlot moved to Armenia and declared his disagreement with the actions of Russian authorities; but there he quickly ran out of money. Last November, he decided to return to Russia and was detained.
The fifth criminal case against Eduard Sharlot was opened under the article of inciting hatred and humiliation of human dignity on the Internet with the threat of violence, the SHOT Telegram channel has reported.
According to the channel, the reason was in his post with an appeal to certain "Russian speakers". According to Valery, Eduard's father, this statement was not examined, and "no one saw it, except for the one who made the denunciation," the RIA "Novosti" reports.
Sharlot is kept at the SIZO (pre-trial prison); his arrest was extended until July 23, the human rights project "OVD-Info"* has added.
On May 30, rights defenders from the project "Support for Political Prisoners. Memorial" reported that they have declared Eduard Sharlot a political prisoner.
